Stubborn dog…a plea from Maggie
Stubborn Dog
I am a Golden Retriever,
The rules I make up are my own,
I’ll go on a walk on my terms
I’ll decide on a whim to come home.
I remember the time I was frightened,
The spot on which I was scared,
I’ll refuse to budge any further
So, you’d better make sure you’re prepared!
I’ll decide it is fine on one day,
On another, I’ll tell you, no way,
You can tug and cajole but really,
I’d rather you just let me stay.
I’ll run home if you don’t mind me leaving,
That big dog looks like a bear,
I hear you frantically calling,
But I’m afraid I must leave you there.
I’ll wait for a time if it feels safe,
I’ll let you catch up and scold,
I’ll look suitably sorry and lick you,
But you see, you just won’t be told.
The world you see as inviting,
Holds terrors and traumas for me,
I’m scared of so much, it’s frightening,
To be a scaredy cat such as me.
Your four legged friend,
Maggie
